One day it started, at first very shy,
That slyly but daily some people were to die
More and more had to go every day
And each one of us had to find a way
To cope with something so out of control
No loophole left for a single soul
So many unanswered questions we had
Some were angry, some went quite mad
So many were nothing but much afraid
And still others tried a silly debate
With which restriction they came to terms
If really there were those dangerous germs
Ref.
This was the time when we had to decide
To turn around our lives earthwide
Or to face a constantly rougher ride
Till the very last tree and the ever last tide
We were lucky back then with that sudden threat
If we had not reacted we'd all be dead
The planet had nearly gone down the drain
But our last efforts were not in vain
When finally most of us knew what was wrong
When we came to sing a very new song.
Ref.
This was the time when we had to decide
To turn around all our lives earthwide
Or to face a constantly rougher ride
Till the very last tree and the ever last tide
We realised we overcame this disease
Only if everyone were at ease
No room for judgemental stupidity
No time for power and bigottery
No air for cruelty, violence or sway
If any of us were to see a safe day
Since then no hierarchy needed no more
Everyone now understands the score
No greed, no envy, no war, no fights
Everyone everwhere lives the same rights
It's the only way: we all care what we do
And know exactly what we always knew
Ref.
This was the time when we had to decide
To turn around all our lives earthwide
Or to face a constantly rougher ride
Till the very last tree and the ever last tide
Humanity differs from fauna because
We feel the need to care above laws
Music and art and language and ideas
Are the only we way to cope with our fears
If we care not to step on someone's toes
We can be content without hardly any woes
Ref.
This was the time when we had to decide
To turn around all our lives earthwide
Or to face a constantly rougher ride
Till the very last tree and the ever last tide
